History
My great-grandfather, William F. Hann, started in the heating business in 1907. From the very beginning, the company was deeply rooted in Cleveland Heights. In those early years, my great-grandfather worked closely with architects during the new construction boom in the Heights. Because of this, he obtained many blueprints of area homes which are still in our archives today.
Early in the twentieth century, people usually purchased a gas-powered steam or hot water heating system for their homes because warm air heating systems were frowned upon. Fuel was plentiful and homes were not well insulated, so heating systems were often oversized and inefficient by today’s standards. How times have changed!
Ellsworth Hann, my grandfather, entered the family business in 1926. The company still worked mainly in new construction at that time, but around 1940 our business focus switched to residential HVAC service and maintenance. This remains one of our main specialties today.
Then in 1952, the business moved to 2277 Lee Road in Cleveland Heights, where we were located for over six decades. In 2015, we moved to our current home, 2026 Lee Road.
William A. Hann, my father, took over the family business in 1973. During his tenure, the family business continued to grow. We expanded our services to include complete house re-piping and residential plumbing repairs. Verne & Ellsworth Hann was among the first Cleveland firms to enter the air conditioning field. The Hann family also pioneered service contracts to provide our customers with trouble free maintenance for their homes.
My brother Bill and I grew up in the business and are dedicated to preserving our family’s commitment to the highest quality service and experience for our valued customers. As we make plans for the next 100 years, we continue to research new products, safety controls, and innovative ways to reduce energy costs.
Today Verne & Ellsworth Hann carries only brand name, respected products and continues to provide unbeatable customer service. We share our heating, cooling, HVAC, plumbing, and air quality expertise throughout the Cleveland area, from our home in Cleveland Heights to many communities in Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake Counties.
