Fourth of July Fun Facts!

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations date back to the 18th century.  On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Here are some Independence Day fun facts!

  • The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men from 13 colonies.
  • Only John Hancock signed the Declaration of Independence  on July 4th, 1776.  All the others signed later.
  • The only two signers of the Declaration of Independence who later served as President of the United States were John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
  • Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on the 4th of July.
  • The stars on the original American flag were in a circle so all the Colonies would appear equal.
  • The White House held its first 4th of July party in 1801.
  • Independence Day celebrations include fireworks, parades and barbecues.  Approximately 150 million hot dogs are consumed on this day!

Verne & Ellsworth Hann wishes everyone a safe and happy 4th of July!
