Responded to service call for furnace overheating complaint with system age unknown. Upon inspection, found furnace operating with burners firing continuously, as evidenced by active blue flames observed during diagnostic examination. Investigated thermostat control circuit and discovered thermostat was calling for heat excessively or failing to properly cycle the system off when set temperature was reached. Adjusted thermostat heat anticipator settings and verified proper temperature differential settings. Tested system operation through multiple heating cycles to confirm furnace now cycles on and off appropriately, maintaining comfortable temperature without overheating the home. Burner combustion pattern showed proper blue flame characteristics indicating adequate gas pressure and air mixture. All safety controls tested and operating within normal parameters. System restored to proper automatic operation with normal temperature control functionality.
