Changing your HVAC filter is vital to indoor air quality and helping your HVAC system run efficiently.

Filters play a crucial role by collecting dirt, mold, dander, pollen, and dust mite debris.  As these particles accumulate, they build up and make it nearly impossible for air to pass through.  This can cause your HVAC system to break down or overheat resulting in costly repairs or replacement.

When a filter becomes clogged, it will make your system work harder which will increase your energy bills.  A clean filter can save you up to 15% on your utility bill and purchasing a filter is fairly inexpensive.

Filters are also extremely important to the air quality of your home.  If you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma, a dirty filter can worsen symptoms by spreading allergens throughout your home.  Changing your filter will maintain healthy indoor air quality.

Your HVAC system filter should be changed regularly.  It’s important to remember to change it more frequently when needed, such as during the winter months when you’re using your heating system more often or if you are remodeling your home which can cause an excess of dust and debris.

In addition to changing your filter, it is recommended by all HVAC equipment manufactures, and by Verne & Ellsworth Hann, to have annual routine maintenance on your HVAC system.  Our expert technicians can change your filter during this yearly visit and instruct you on how to do it yourself throughout the year, if necessary.

Contact Verne & Ellsworth Hann at 216-932-9755 to schedule your annual maintenance.  Let us give you piece of mind that your HVAC system is working safely and efficiently.

Pollutants such as mold, bacteria, allergens, VOCs and more travel easily through a home’s central air system creating unhealthy environments. Installation of a germicidal UV light inside the air system inhibits the growth of mold which saves energy by allowing the system to operate more efficiently. A cleaner system also requires less maintenance.

APCO is the whole-house air purifier that eliminates odors, toxic VOCs and microbial contaminants from the air and air system. It is installed in the duct just above the furnace or air handler so it can purify the air as it circulates. The cool, moist interior of the air system is an ideal breeding-ground for mold. Fresh-Aire UV light inhibits the growth of mold on the coil and drain pan, which saves energy by allowing the system to operate more efficiently.

Dirty sock syndrome is the foul, mold smelling odor that comes from your air conditioner and is caused by the build up of mold and bacteria on your evaporator coil during winter months when you transition from heating mode at night to cooling mode during the day. Fresh-Aire UV light sterilizes biological contaminants such as mold and bacteria helping to prevent this moldy smelling odor from occurring.

Imagine waking up on a 90 degree day and finding out that your air conditioner is broken. How could this be prevented? Annual maintenance on your air conditioning system has proven to be an effective way to extend the life of your AC unit and save you money in the long run. The first step is to contact a local HVAC company near me, like Verne & Ellsworth Hann.

One of our certified technicians will perform a comprehensive tune-up of your cooling system to make sure it is working properly. They will also be able to help you identify any minor or major problems with the system. Knowing if you air conditioner needs to be repaired or replace is never a bad thing. Having this information before the system stops working allows you the ability to be proactive in fixing or replacing your air conditioner.

Our comprehensive AC tune-up can be completed in about 45 minutes which is nothing compared to the hours of headaches and time stuck in the summer heat that a broken AC system cause. The process of checking an air conditioner includes but not limited too: replacing and cleaning of filters, cleaning evaporator coils, unclogging condensate drains, checking refrigerant level, detecting leaks, inspecting motors, checking belts and check the accuracy of the thermostat.

WHAT IS UV LIGHT?

UV (ultraviolet) Light disinfection is now widely used in hospitals and laboratories to sanitize instruments and work surfaces and to prevent the spread of potentially lethal airborne infectious diseases.  The technology is used by the food industry to sterilize food before packaging and water treatment systems now incorporate UV light as a chemical-free means of purification.  According to the EPA, indoor air pollution is often five times worse than outdoor and represents a significant health risk.  Having a UV light will improve indoor air quality by sterilizing mold, bacteria, viruses, and allergens from the air as it cycles through the central air system.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

UV light kills germs by giving them an intense “sunburn.”  It only affects things it shines on directly.  Nothing spreads into the home except clean air.  The germ-killing effect takes place inside the air system and is limited to that area.  There is no danger to any living thing in the home except microbes that are carried by the air into the central air system.  The product is intended to be on 24 hours a day.  Mold doesn’t stop growing, and cycling the UV light on and off would shorten the life of the UV lamp.  The germ-killing effect starts immediately with about 90% of surface microbes sterilized within the first few minutes and about 99.9% sterilized after the first 24 hours.

If you live in the University Heights area and you have an older home, there is a chance that your home is heated with a boiler and you have radiators that heat individual rooms. Radiators are made out of a variety of materials. Some of the most common materials used for radiators are cast iron, steel, copper and aluminum. Radiators could last up to fifteen years but annual preventative maintenance will help to extend its life. If you need to have radiators or a boiler replaced, then you should contact a local Cleveland heating company. Verne & Ellsworth Hann has been installing, repairing and providing maintenance services on boilers and radiators for decades.

It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with your radiators. The more you know about your radiator system the easier it will be to identify when there is a problem. Hearing loud or unusual noises coming from the radiators can indicate that there is a problem. If you know how the system sounds normally when it turns on and off or when it is running, it will help to identify when there is a loud or unusual noise. Another common problem with radiators is that it may start leaking. If you notice water on or around the radiator and there is no other cause for it, then your radiator might be leaking. Even a small drip is something that could be a problem. Excess air and water can build up in the radiator. It is a good idea to have a technician “bleed” the radiator in order to get any air or water out of the system. Bleeding or venting the radiator should be done at least once a year.

Our heating experts are certified in radiator repair and maintenance services. If you having any problems with your heating system, then give us a call and schedule an appointment today.
