4 Ways to Prevent Pipes From Freezing

Winter has definitely arrived here in Northeast Ohio! Most of us are still digging out since the snow storm hit this past weekend. not only did we get more than a foot of snow, we’ve also been dealing with below freezing temperatures. My car was showing 2 degrees on my ride into Verne & Ellsworth Hann this morning!

With freezing temperatures here in Northeast Ohio, can come the possibilities of freezing pipes in your home. There are a few ways homeowners can prevent their pipes from freezing and bursting. Here are four tips:

  1. Keep garage doors closed. Especially if there are water supply lines in the garage.
  2. Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors. This allows warmer air to circulate around the plumbing, especially if your sink is on an exterior wall.
  3. Let the cold water drip from a faucet. Running water through the pipes, even a trickle, helps prevent pipes from freezing.
  4. Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature. Don’t turn your thermostat way down at night. When the temperatures dip below freezing, it’s not the time to try to save a few bucks on your heating bill.

If you experience damage to your Cleveland area home’s water lines, contact Verne & Ellsworth Hann. Located in Cleveland Heights for over 64 years, Verne & Ellsworth Hann is the ONLY Hann family owned heating, cooling and plumbing company in Cleveland.
