Verne & Ellsworth Hann, Inc., 2026 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118

Many neighborhoods throughout Cleveland, including historic Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights, are known for their beautiful architecture.  Many older homes that were constructed with hot water radiators or baseboard heat usually do not have any ductwork installed.  Because of this, you may think that central air conditioning is impossible for your home.  If that is the case, think again!  Verne & Ellsworth Hann has a solution for you!

  • High Velocity Air Condtioning

High velocity air conditioning is a cooling system designed especially for older homes without existing ductwork, preventing the use of traditional forced-air cooling.  In high velocity A/C, cool air is distributed throughout the home via a system of small flexible tubes that run throughout your home in crawlspaces, closets, and ceilings.  Outlet holes for distributing the cool air are only two inches in diameter, and the master air handler can fit compactly in an attic, basement, or closet.

  • Ductless Air Conditioning

You may not have heard of ductless air conditioning systems, but they are the way of the future in homes in Northeast Ohio.  As opposed to traditional central air conditioning that forces cool air through a system of ducts, ductless systems deliver cool air directly to specific “zones.”  Ductless A/C systems are comprised of a small outdoor unit connected via refrigerant lines to wall-mounted indoor units that are controlled independently of each other.

  • Mini-Split System

Mini-split systems are entirely ductless.  Warm or cool air is delivered specifically to individual rooms or “zones” as needed via small wall-mounted units.

Whatever cooling system is the best fit for your home, it is essential that your air conditioning be installed by a licensed company.  Improper DIY installation can void your system’s warranty and cause permanent damage to your home.  Verne & Ellsworth Hann’s cooling professionals can select and size your ductless system, install the outdoor unit, run refrigerant lines, install indoor unit(s), and make sure everything is functioning properly.

Owned and operated by brothers Bill and Chris Hann, Verne & Ellsworth Hann is the ONLY Hann family owned heating, cooling and plumbing company in Cleveland.  Verne & Ellsworth Hann is located in Cleveland Heights and has been servicing Northeast Ohio for over 63 years.

Sitting at my desk here at Verne & Ellsworth Hann, there is a vent located almost directly above me.  I can’t lie, I love this vent when it’s blowing warm air on me in the middle of a freezing Northeast Ohio winter.  But now that it’s summer and the vent blows cold air from the cooling system, I literally sit here with goosebumps all day!

Do you experience this problem at your job or in your home?  A fantastic and inexpensive solution is a vent deflector.  It easily attaches with magnets or screws to your vents and redirects the air.  There are models to fit all shapes and sizes of vents.

I can honestly say, the vent deflector that was simply installed on the vent above me has helped tremendously!  I still get the benefit of the cool air without it blowing directly on me.  If you’re having this same problem, I highly recommend a vent deflector.  Who knew such a simple item could be so effective?

From repairs and installations, to simple fixes like a vent deflector, call Verne & Ellsworth Hann for all your heating and cooling needs.  Located in Cleveland Heights and servicing Northeast Ohio for over 63 years, Verne & Ellsworth Hann is a 5-generation company and the ONLY Hann family owned heating, cooling and plumbing company in Cleveland.

Today, July 18th, is National Hot Dog Day!

Whether they are grilled, boiled or cooked on a stick over a campfire, hot dogs are a favorite summertime staple.  An estimated 20 billion hot dogs are consumed by Americans every year.  That’s about 70 hot dogs per person each year.  National Hot Dog Day was established in 1991 and is celebrated on the 3rd Wednesday in July.

Over 25 million hot dogs are sold at baseball stadiums each year.  If you’ve been to a Cleveland Indians baseball game, you’ve most likely bet on the hot dog race.  This is where ketchup, mustard and onion race around the field and sabotage each other for the win.  Verne & Ellsworth Hann, located in Cleveland Heights, supports our community.  Whether it be local businesses, community activities or our sports teams.

Whether I’m driving to work here at Verne & Ellsworth Hann in Cleveland Heights, home, the store, etc., I notice all the homes with open windows.  It dawned on me…these homeowners must not have central air conditioning!  I just can’t imagine not having A/C on these 90+ degree days.  An open window would only let the hot air in and if they are using fans, it would only blow the hot air around.  I have to wonder, how well do these homeowners sleep at night when the low is only 75 degrees?

If you’re spending your summer with your windows open, it’s time!  If you have fans in your home blowing around hot air, it’s time!  If you want to be comfortable in your home on the hottest and muggiest days of a Northeast Ohio summer, it’s time!  It’s time…time to call Verne & Ellsworth Hann!

Homeowners in Cleveland Heights and throughout Northeast Ohio have relied on Verne & Ellsworth Hann to provide indoor cooling comfort for over 63 years.  Let brothers Bill and Chris Hann design a system to provide exceptional cooling for your home on the hottest of days.  Verne & Ellsworth Hann are also the leading experts on ductless cooling systems which is a plus for many homeowners in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, University Heights, Beachwood and other areas of Northeast Ohio where boilers are used to heat the home.  Our technicians also repair broken air conditioners and provide routine maintenance to ensure that your cooling system runs smoothly.  Regardless of what cooling service you need, Verne & Ellsworth Hann is guaranteed to get the job done right with integrity and professionalism.

There are all kinds of uses for ultraviolet lights.  They are used to sterilize hospitals and water, used in food establishment and even for curing nail polish faster.  But did you know UV light can improve the indoor air quality of your home through your HVAC system?

UV light kills germs and can help eliminate many types of fungi, bacteria, viruses and pathogens.  UV lights are installed within the air handler and remain on around the clock.  An HVAC UV light is effective at controlling mold inside the air handler keeping the coil mold-free.  An additional benefit of a UV light is not only preventing build up on your HVAC systems coil, but also your ducts.  This will improve airflow and energy efficiency, as well as eliminate the need for regular duct cleaning.

There are several factors that can affect the effectiveness of the UV lights installed in your A/C system, such as the intensity, number, placement and direction of UV lamps.  The temperature and humidity levels in your home will also have an impact.

UV lights for HVAC systems come in a variety shapes and sizes, and with different power ratings.  Some may offer more features than others.  They are not necessarily “one size fits all.”  Call the air quality experts at Verne & Ellsworth Hann to access your individual needs.

Today, July 10th, is National Pina Colada Day!  The Pina Colada is a sweet, rum-based cocktail.  It can also be enjoyed without the rum!  It also includes cream of coconut and pineapple juice and is usually served blended or shaken with ice.

The recent temperatures here in Cleveland have been hazy, hot and humid.  A great way to cool off during these summer months is a splash in the pool or a day at the beach.  Of course, these wouldn’t be complete without a refreshing Pina Colada!  But at the end of the day, the only way to stay cool in your home is with air conditioning!

Everyone here at Verne & Ellsworth Hann hopes you enjoyed your 4th of July!  It sure was hot and humid!  The temperatures finally cooled down a bit here in Cleveland Heights and we’re finally feeling less humidity but according to the forecast, it will soon be back!  So, what is humidity?

Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere.  It’s harder for the air to absorb the evaporation from our skin, so when we sweat, it doesn’t evaporate fast enough.  That leaves us with the “sticky” feeling.

Did you know that whole home air conditioning works like a dehumidifier?  As your cooling system runs, condensation forms on a coil within the indoor unit.  Moisture from the air condenses and drips into a drain.  This process removes humidity from your home.

While air conditioning removes humidity, a dehumidifier can make you feel even more comfortable without running your cooling system as often.

The trained professionals at Verne & Ellsworth Hann have decades of experience working with all kinds of dehumidifier equipment.  Whether you are interested in having a system installed or repaired, we are proud to offer quality service throughout the greater Cleveland area.

If your home is too humid, contact Verne & Ellsworth Hann today to schedule an in-home consultation with one of our air quality experts.  We look forward to assessing your unique needs and designing a personalized solution that works for you.

The Fourth of July has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century.  On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.  From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades, family gatherings and barbecues.

The 4th of July also means summer heat!  Most of us spend the day outdoors and then enjoy fireworks in the evening.  But at the end of the day, we want to come home to a comfortable indoor temperature.

Keep your home cool and comfortable with central air conditioning.   Verne & Ellsworth Hann, located in Cleveland Heights, has been repairing, maintaining and installing cooling systems for over 63 years.  Family owned and operated by brothers Chris and Bill Hann, Verne & Ellsworth Hann is the ONLY Hann family owned heating and cooling company in Cleveland.
