The only Hann family owned heating, cooling & plumbing business in Cleveland!

Yes, this photo shows  it’s the end of fall and the beginning of winter and the temperature at the time of this picture was under 20 degrees. But we were not covering these steps in order to keep them warm.  We were protecting these stone steps because they were built before 1900. To add perspective consider that these steps were laid before the Cleveland Museum of Art had been built, or Severance Hall, or even the Terminal Tower.  Where another contractor may have simply seen an old set of stone steps, Verne & Ellsworth Hann saw a home built with historical significance and did our best to honor the irreproducible craftsmanship. It’s what separates us from the rest.  We not only have a passion for the business we are in but also understand the uniquely built century-old homes in the surrounding area. We have an appreciation for craftsmanship and deliver the same level of craftsmanship when installing a boiler or furnace in your home. People respect that craftsmanship and we respect their homes.

This is our warehouse and it’s full of boilers. This shows only half the boilers we have on hand. And more are on the way.  The number of boilers Verne & Ellsworth Hann installs in a typical two week period is often more than our competition installs in an entire year. This makes us one of the largest Slant/Fin steam and hot water boiler installers in Ohio. We’re confident when we tell our customers that  no other company will install your boiler better than Verne & Ellsworth Hann. We pride ourselves on providing the best engineered installation for maximum efficiency and reliability. Quite possibly you may find a company who will offer a cheaper installation. But do you want a company who only installs a handful of boilers a year putting in a heating system that’s supposed to last a generation? And speaking of generations, our company is a fourth generation family owned business. The only way to get to being the oldest company and the largest installer is simply by being the best.

With more boilers on the way . . .

As we approach the anniversary of what became known as Superstorm Sandy on October 29th 2012, for those of us who lost power we wish we had the foresight to have a backup generator in place. As an authorized  dealer and installer of Generac whole house generators  we have already seen some of our customers heed the warning and have had Verne & Ellsworth install a whole house generator.  We take a coordinated approach to the installation by seeing all of the electric and gas line work is installed up to code. The transfer switch is often included in the project to make this a hands free back-up system, eliminating the unenviable task of pulling out a mini generator from the garage and fueling it up. Most Generac whole house generators have a periodic exerciser feature built in to insure your systems is ready when you need it. And if that’s not enough, Verne & Ellsworth can service your Generac generator over the life of the system. So, when the next big storm hits town you can have peace of mind.

Generac Whole House System

We have all encountered a slow drain at some point in our lives. At first it’s annoying and you live with it. Then, it becomes even slower and you try an off- the-shelf drain opener. It helps . . . for a while. Then it becomes slow once again. You get caught up in the wash-rinse-repeat approach until you’re resigned to call in the professional to have the drain snaked. And in most cases that solves the problem. But for some of us who own older homes with drain pipes ranging in 75-100 years-old, there is no “Magic Snake” to solve what  you see pictured here.  For a pipe that becomes 100% clogged there is only one true solution and that is to cut the pipe out and replace it. You’ll stop pouring money down the drain with ineffective drain cleaners. You’ll  stop being annoyed with slow drains. And you’ll be good for the next 100 years.

By nature, some invasive projects create dust and debris. What separates the polished contractor from the amateur is containing the mess. We treat your home as if it were our home. And at the end of the day, not only do you have a difficult repair completed in a thorough and professional manner, but your house is clean. Pictured below are Ernie and Bill erecting an onsite containment tent in a customers’ living room.

Of the roughly 112 elements on the Periodic Chart of Elements one that you are unlikely to see is a heating element for an electric hot water tank.  But if you wake up to a cold shower one morning, it may become the most important element of your day. As evidenced by the adjoining photo, even an electric hot water tank has a weak link. Under a slow daily attack by harsh water conditions, the protective  insulator around the heating element will deteriorate. While the elements are replaceable the cost effectiveness is often a poor choice  when the tank is beyond seven years old.  Simply put, you do not buy a new set of tires for a car that’s on its way to the junk yard.
